MOVING RIGHT ALONG

Did that first full month fly by for you? Well, we are certainly moving right along this year. We had a successful Back to School Picnic, a few Family Nights,
our first PTA General Meeting, and there’s more to come. One of my personal goals as your PTA President this year is to educate the Bonner Community about our purpose.
PTA wants to enrich the educational experiences and overall well-being of every child. We do this through the
programs that we support and provide during the school day and occasionally, with afternoon and evening events.
The programs that we bring to Bonner engage families in
• Student learning
• Social and emotional development
• Health and safety, and
• The exploration of arts and culture
With this, I want to personally take a moment to invite ALL students in our school to participate in the
Reflections Program. It is a nationally recognized program of PTA and encourages our children to explore,
use, and express their creativity through the arts. All students who participate receive recognition on some
level and are eligible to win State or National Awards as well. Let’s support the arts!  Theme: The Magic of a
Moment.  

2nd WATCH D.O.G.S.

KICK OFF EVENT

Thursday, October 4th; 6:00- 7:30pm
We cordially invite all dads (and other father figures i.e. grandfathers, stepdads, uncles) to attend our 2nd Kick-Off Event. This program is specifically designed to increase male involvement in the school setting. On Thursday, October 4th,
from 6:00 - 7:30 in the MultiPurposeRoom, Dads and their
Bonner students can come and enjoy pizza and drinks. The kids will get to play with one another while the men hear
a presentation about the program. Last year's WATCH D.O.G.S. are welcome to attend, too! We have extended the Watch D.O.G.S. tee shirt orders
through Friday, October 5th.  Please make sure to send in payments with the order forms, as we will only order the shirts for which we receive pre-payments. The shirts are $15.00
each, for both children and adults. Please make checks payable to Bonner PTA. We implemented this fabulous
program last fall and experienced tremendous success. Numerous dads volunteered throughout the year. Not only did the men have fun, but the kids LOVED it! If you have any questions, please e-mail Pam Truncale at

DROP OFF ZONE

Two years ago, the Bonner administration and our PTA joined
forces to create a drop-off zone out in front of our school. The drop-off zone is run by administration, staff, and parent
volunteers. Students may be dropped off between 7:40 - 7:55 a.m. The drop-off zone is a fast, safe way to get our kids to
school each morning. It also helps to reduce traffic and parking problems. When parents are dropping off students in the bus zone, the car should pull over to the curb to let them out; not hold up the outer lane by stopping to let them
out. The outer lane should be for those that are done to pull out into and drive away. It is dangerous for the students
getting dropped off on the outside lane, because they have to cross in front of the cars at the curb that may start moving.

NATIONAL PTA ANNUAL REFLECTIONS
PROGRAM

The  Reflections Program is designed to enhance quality arts education in Pre-K through grade 12. Students submit artwork in the following categories: Film Production, Dance Choreography, Literature, Photography, Musical Composition, and Visual Arts. Top entries from each State PTA Reflections
Program advance to National PTA for the final round of judging. This year’s Reflection’s Program Theme is “The
Magic of a Moment...” See Ms. Ankrapp for more information.
 

BONNER READ-A-THON

Thank you to ALL students and families who participated in the Bonner Read-A-thon. We hope that you enjoyed
the last two weeks and the commitment to reading. This school-wide program hopefully has reinforced the
importance of reading while at the same time getting the support of family and friends through pledges, which will
support our Accelerated Reader, Arts Alive, and other programs. We urge all students to turn in your Reading Logs, Pledge Forms, and collected Pledges ASAP. The deadline is October 10, 2012. The top readers and pledge earners of
each class will be announced  in the following week, as well as the classes who won the Pizza Party, the Otter
Pop Party, and other prizes. All students who turn in $10 or more in pledges win a Baskin Robbins Reward Card.
All students who turn in $50 or more in pledges win the Baskin Robbins card AND a moment to Cream the
Principal on October 11th! Thank you again for your support and participation!

OCTOBER FAMILY NIGHTS

We are fortunate to be hosting three Family Nights this month! 

1. Gordon Biersch, in Boca Park, on Wednesday, October 3rd; 11:00am - 11:00pm A
2. Applebee’s, also in Boca Park, on Monday, October 15th;     10:30am - midnight.
3. IHOP, in The Trails, on Tuesday, October 30th; 4:00pm - 9:00pm.

Enjoy dinner with your Bonner Family and friends and have some fun; three times this month! A percentage of
your check will be donated to Bonner! Flyers will be coming home shortly with details. 

PTA GENERAL MEETING

Tuesday, October 9th; 6:30pm

Our next General PTA Meeting, this year, is Tuesday, October 9th at 6:30pm, in the MPR. There will be a surprise guest
speaker! Everyone is encouraged and welcomed to attend. The PTA is made up of parent and teacher volunteers. Please join us and share your talents and your time with the Bonner students!

VOLUNTEERING WITH PTA

Since the beginning of the year, many of you have signed up to volunteer for PTA. If you haven't received any emails from
Volunteer Spot about these opportunities and would like to, please email your contact info to bonnerpta@yahoo.com. Our Volunteer Spot Coordinator, Laura Armstrong, will be sure to add you into the database. We are working on building that base and thank you for your patience as we get everything organized.
All of our programs and activities are only successful because of the help of parent volunteers. We will always find a place for you!
